Abstract

English has been dominating the educational system of private universities in Bangladesh as there has been rapid growth brought through globalization. Although it is a country of bilinguals, English is used to communicate in academic and professional fields and people have grown interested in the use of this foreign language. The load that teachers have to take to cater to the interest of its user in Bangladesh has been revealed through this study. Translanguaging can be an essential part of teaching English to the students of private universities but the areas that create concerns have been demonstrated in this study. English for Academic Purposes (EAP) classrooms need students to focus on the utilization of English more than any other language. In this study, it will be shown how using both English and Bangla reveal a student’s ultimate potential as it nullifies the preconceived notion that considers English proficiency is a testament to a skillful and knowledgeable person. Translanguaging in Bangladesh can bridge the gap between teachers and students as interaction gets easier and the imbalance of competence is met by it.
