Abstract

Deaf and mute persons may only communicate and study via sign language, but they often face various challenges in achieving education. Due to the lack of sufficient sign language education among the majority of the family and society, it is very difficult to get help from other family members in providing sign language education or to find tutors who are skill in sign language. Although adults learn to associate certain words or symbols with sign language as they grow up, which is difficult for children to do. Therefore, this project’s goal is to create an android mobile application with artificial intelligence to help deaf and mute children understand and learn the Bengali alphabet and number sign. The application will contain Bengali alphabet and number sign which will be shown in the form of figure according to the learning content. Also, there will be a multiple-choice quiz process through which students can test the knowledge gained from the application. To provide maximum benefit from the technological side the application will use a sign detector mechanism to detect the Bengali meaning of the sign image which selected by the user. To create this application, I used the waterfall Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) Model.
