Abstract

The focus of this research work is a comparison of the linguistic competency of the Qawmi Students in accordance with their counterparts, the Alia Madrasa students and the students from Public and Private Schools. In this piece of research, the researcher has attempted to identify whether the English language competency of the students of Qawmi Madrasas are equal to their counterparts from Alia Madrasa and General Schools, if not what is or are the reasons behind and what could be the probable solution to that incompetency. In a mixed approach, including both Qualitative and Quantitative Data, the researcher has tried to find out the probable causes of the English Language incompetency of Qawmi students. The settings of this work are very specific and the sphere is also limited, which is the Qawmi Madrasa scenario. As participants the researcher has picked up a Government funded Alia Madrasa, two Qawmi Madrasa and a Madrasa for females only and two public schools. Apparent impressions from this research work include, firstly; Government, Civil Society and Elite Class should change their point of view towards Qawmi Education, secondly, there should be leniency in secularization of Madrasa Education and finally, prioritizing a certain degree as Master’s equivalent won’t be sufficient but there are other scopes for development of Qawmi Madrasa sector.
