Abstract
This dissertation titled “Forlorn Melodies” is a collection of my original poetry covering various genres. This is a fruit of my passion for poetry I developed over the years. In an age where human beings are surrounded by machines, poetry works as an antidote to relieve people from the mechanized lifestyle. It is important to have compassion towards people and the nature to write poetry and one common aspect in my poems is expression of intense emotions. Through the different themes I explored, I tried to dive deep into human emotions and presented an outlook on life that deals with both natural and urban lifestyle. The poems I wrote, are based on my own experiences, as well as a result of my imaginative route. I attempted to cover both free verse poetry as well as poems with rhyme and rhythm. To me, poetry is any word or sentence that has a purpose. Being a conductor of chaos, it is a poet’s job to contribute a verse for the greater good of the society, and through my poems I tried to do that.
